How you’ll make an impact Supporting projects and tenders for HVDC System Design - managing the scope, budget and schedule while ensuring quality requirements are met. Interface with other departments in HVDC organization, representing your System Design team in project, tender and customer meetings. Participate in and moderate technical design reviews and in technical problem solving. Take responsibility for the technical coordination of System Design deliveries as well as proactively managing risks and opportunities while ensuring quality in deliveries and communication With more experience you get the opportunity to manage complex projects on your own. Your background You hold a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in electrical power or electrical engineering You have project management experience from working in technology intensive projects or tenders You have good communication- and interpersonal skills and a drive to develop yourself, the team and the ways of working You enjoy working in diverse and multicultural teams and you share your experiences and knowledge with your colleagues and learn from them. HVDC Protection Associate Project Engineer

The Opportunity Are you passionate about power systems protection and eager to contribute to the energy transition? We are now looking for several HVDC Protection Project Engineers to join our global HVDC team in Ludvika. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, implementing, and testing advanced protection systems that enable reliable and efficient transmission of electricity across the world. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and suppliers to deliver innovative HVDC solutions that support grid stability and sustainable energy development. How You'll Make an Impact Lead and contribute to the specification, design, and engineering of HVDC protection systems for global projects. Perform protection studies including fault calculations, relay coordination, and stability analyses for HVDC converter stations and transmission systems. Develop and review protection philosophies, functional design specifications, logic diagrams, and test procedures. Configure, verify, and validate protection schemes to ensure reliable system performance and compliance with project requirements. Execute and support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for protection equipment and systems. Provide technical expertise during commissioning and post-commissioning phases, supporting successful project delivery. Collaborate closely with project teams, customers, suppliers, and engineering disciplines to resolve technical challenges and optimize solutions. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, share knowledge, and mentor less experienced engineers within the organization. Your Background Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 1 year of experience in protection engineering, preferably within HVDC, FACTS, or power transmission systems. Desirable understanding of HVDC technology, converter topologies (VSC and/or LCC), and associated protection principles. Strong knowledge of high voltage substation protection and control systems, including design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of protection schemes for transmission and distribution networks. Experience with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) settings, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in power system analysis tools such as PSCAD, PSS®E, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory. Knowledge of international standards and communication protocols, including IEC 61850 and IEC 60255. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in global, multidisciplinary teams. Fluent in English, both written and spoken. The opportunity My name is Andrew Carruthers, and hope to be your new manager here in Ludvika. I manage the software department called “Sequence and Interlocking”, which is responsible for providing a safe and reliable operation of the switchgear​ in a HVDC station. This means we solve interlocking principles, status configurations, automated switching sequences and “ready for” conditions among many other things and we are a vital part of any HVDC station. My responsibility as your manager is to provide a culture of inclusion, respect and learning, so it feels exciting, challenging, fun and fulfilling when coming to work. We actively work on both soft skills and support each other in technical challenges and problems. “Team work at its best”, is our goal. We are now looking for several Project Engineers in control and protection software integration, part of HVDC in Hitachi Energy in Ludvika. At HVDC you will create a sustainable future by providing efficient ways to transport electrical power. If you are ready to meet the technological challenges within control and protection systems – together with a team of driven junior engineers and senior experts representing about 43 nationalities – then you can expect an equally exciting and ever-changing time ahead of you. How you’ll make an impact Create concept design for our customized control and protection systems. Work with detailed design, system integration and test-based development. Perform verification of our control and protection schemes – executed in test rooms and on-site. Collaboration is, in other words, a central part of your new position that will provide you with a great starting point in our organization with possibilities of further career opportunities. It will also give you the benefit to travel globally during the commissioning period at the end of each project. Lead a technical area and be part of a dedicated project team, in which we work together throughout all phases of our extensive projects. As an experienced engineer you would be part of a technical expert team providing guidance to junior engineers in technical issues and drive technical discussions with customers. Your background You hold a university degree within a relevant technical area along with competence within system design or electrical expertise. As minimum 5 years work experience in control and protection systems or HVDC or other related experience. It is an advantage if you have worked with commissioning of control and protection systems or if you have experience with control and protection system of HVDC project. Other valuable experience is earlier work with AC relays or digital protections. You have what it takes to plan and organize your own workday. You are a driven problem solver who eagerly takes initiatives and always delivers on time and according to expectations. In this position you are expected to be away abroad for periods of time. Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Swedish is a merit.
