Mechanical Engineer

Civilingenjör, maskinHeltidVanlig anställning

Om tjänsten

Build the hardware, own the platform At Frost Unmanned, you will be the engineer who turns our fixed-wing UAV from a design into a rugged, field-ready product. You will own the mechanical side of the platform: the structure, the component layout, the integration, and how it performs and holds up in real operations. You will have real influence over design decisions from day one. Frost Unmanned develops sovereign unmanned systems for defense and government customers: high-speed fixed-wing strike UAVs and unmanned surface vessels for maritime and coastal operations. We are a small team in Stora Höga, Stenungsund, moving from development into serial delivery. What you will do Lead CAD design of airframe structures, mechanical assemblies, and component layouts Set the aerodynamic and structural requirements for the platform, and work with our external simulation partners to verify their results Turn simulation data into design decisions on strength, weight, performance, and manufacturability Select, source, and integrate components and subsystems such as propulsion, fuel systems, and payloads. Design for the end user: how the system is unpacked, assembled, and made ready in the field Own the mechanical interface between the UAV and our pneumatic launcher Support mechanical work on our USV platform Take designs through prototyping, testing, and production, with drawings and documentation for our subcontractors What we are looking for Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience Several years of hands-on mechanical engineering, ideally with UAVs, aircraft, or other high-performance systems Strong CAD skills for lightweight structures and complex assemblies. This is the most important skill for the role Enough understanding of aerodynamics and structural loads to set requirements and challenge simulation results Experience taking designs from prototype to production Eligible to pass Swedish security vetting It is a plus if you have Experience from defense or aerospace Worked with fuel systems, propulsion, or air intakes Composite materials and lightweight manufacturing Built and flown your own RC planes, UAVs, or drones Worked with launch systems, boats, or similar integration tasks Why join us Real ownership of a flying platform, not a small part of a large program Short decision paths and direct access to company leadership Work that goes from your CAD model to the field, fast A small team where everyone works on site, together, every day Competitive conditions and room to grow as the company scales How to apply Send your CV and a few lines about what you have built. Examples of CAD work or your own RC or UAV projects are welcome. No formal cover letter needed. We review applications on an ongoing basis. Location: Stora Höga, Stenungsund Employment type: Full-time, on-site Frost Unmanned is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, or background. Öppen för alla Vi fokuserar på din kompetens, inte dina övriga förutsättningar. Vi är öppna för att anpassa rollen eller arbetsplatsen efter dina behov.

Göteborg·Civilingenjör, tillverkningsindustri

Company description: "Founded in 1927, the Volvo Group is committed to driving prosperity and shaping the future landscape through sustainable transport, mobility, and infrastructure solutions. By offering trucks, buses, construction equipment, power solutions for marine and industrial applications, financing and services that increase our customers’ uptime and productivity. Our headquarters are in Gothenburg, Sweden. Volvo Group shares are listed on Nasdaq Stockholm." Job description:Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.  What do we do in VAS? The DevOps Group within Volvo Autonomous Solutions (VAS) is responsible for the Software Factory and provides Test Automation and Orchestration frameworks that enable efficient software development and validation.   We deliver the frameworks, tools, services, and engineering capabilities that allow development and verification teams to build, test, deploy, and operate software efficiently. Our responsibilities span the entire software delivery ecosystem, including source control management, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, container platforms, infrastructure services, test orchestration, and observability solutions.   Together, these capabilities form our Software Factory, which accelerates software delivery, improves software quality, increases automation, and promotes DevOps best practices across the organization.   Description of the Area As part of our Software Factory, VAS has developed Octopus, an in-house workflow orchestration platform designed to automate and streamline engineering processes across the software development and validation lifecycle.   As we evolve from a traditional DevOps organization toward a Platform Engineering operating model, we are exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI), AI Agents, and AIOps can transform platform operations and software delivery. This thesis will investigate how AI-driven capabilities can be integrated into the Octopus platform to enhance automation, operational efficiency, and developer experience.   Using Octopus as the experimental environment, the study will evaluate how the role of DevOps engineers may evolve, identify operational activities that can benefit from AI assistance or autonomous execution by AI agents, and determine where human oversight remains essential. The work will also explore governance, reliability, security, compliance, and competency considerations required for the safe and successful adoption of AI-enabled operations. Thesis Description This thesis investigates how AI Agents and AIOps can reshape DevOps practices and accelerate the transition toward Platform Engineering within Volvo Autonomous Solutions (VAS).   Through an industrial case study using the Octopus platform, the research will analyze: How AI impacts the role and responsibilities of DevOps engineers. Which operational activities are suitable for AI-assisted execution. Which activities can be safely automated through autonomous AI agents. Where human decision-making, accountability, and oversight must remain mandatory. The governance, reliability, security, compliance, and operational requirements for AI-enabled platforms. The skills, competencies, and organizational capabilities required for future Platform Engineering teams.   The outcome will be an evidence-based adoption framework that provides a structured and low-risk approach for introducing AIOps and AI Agents within VAS. The study will help define how Octopus can evolve from a workflow orchestration platform into an intelligent Platform Engineering capability while maintaining appropriate guardrails, operational control, security, and human accountability.
