System Study Engineer

The Opportunity In this role, you will be part of the HVDC System Performance Department, responsible for the overall performance of HVDC transmission links and their interaction with AC networks, including related stability studies. Power System Physicist/Engineer for the CMS HGCAL

What you'll do As Power System Physicist/Engineer for the CMS High-Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL), you will play a key role in the development, integration, testing and commissioning of the power systems for one of the most innovative particle detectors ever conceived. Working within a multinational, multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the procurement and testing of power supplies for HGCAL detector modules, including low-voltage, high-current supplies for the readout electronics and medium-voltage supplies of up to 800 V for sensor biasing. You will also contribute to the integration of power systems with the detector's safety, control and monitoring systems, as well as the testing and implementation of power components such as DC-DC converters, voltage regulation and cabling. A key aspect of the role will be to assess the impact of the power system on HGCAL performance and to develop and implement strategies to minimise noise effects such as interference, coupling and ripple. This role offers the opportunity to combine strong electrical engineering and detector-physics skills with hands-on involvement in the construction, testing and commissioning of a large-scale, state-of-the-art particle detector. Your responsibilities Follow the procurement of the power supplies (Low Voltage and Bias Voltage, totalling several MCHF), including carrying out acceptance and stress tests on the delivered units. Support the commissioning of these power systems during the mass assembly and testing phases of HGCAL. Work with physicists and engineers to evaluate the performance of HGCAL in relation to its power systems and to develop and implement mitigation strategies where possible and necessary, first on the surface and subsequently when HGCAL is installed in CMS, 100 metres underground. Work with the HGCAL and central CMS Technical Coordination teams to oversee the installation and testing of the power systems underground in the "Service" and "Experimental" caverns. This will include overseeing cable installation, in-situ connectorisation where needed, testing and commissioning, and the integration of the power system into the HGCAL and CMS safety and monitoring systems. Your profile Strong track record in testing, operating and debugging power systems for complex devices, such as particle detectors used in high-energy physics experiments. Experience with silicon- and/or scintillator-based particle detectors would be an advantage. Experience with large-scale procurement of electronic systems, such as power supplies. Ability to work successfully and efficiently within multinational, multicultural teams of engineers, scientists and technicians would be an advantage. Master's Degree or PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field. IT/OT Security Engineer

The opportunity As we move toward working with increasingly complex systems, security becomes an essential aspect of our work. Therefore, we are looking for not one but two passionate IT/OT Security Engineers to join our team. We are embarking on a transformation journey to shift from delivering projects only to building modern, well‑defined product‑based systems. Our goal is to grow our cross‑functional team to eighteen members within a year, creating a dynamic environment where novel ideas and collaboration thrive. In this role, you’ll help create cutting‑edge solutions for platforms that integrate Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) at HVDC. These platforms are the foundation our global project teams rely on. Your main focus will be securing the integration of IT with the OT domain, where Human–Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Gateway Stations (GWS), and communication protocols reside. With your expertise in security principles and your understanding of threats at the edge, you will help project teams develop and integrate security solutions that can serve as reusable frameworks while still meeting project‑specific requirements. These frameworks are essential for optimizing project effort and are mandatory for delivering the required functionality to our customers with the highest possible quality. You’ll document your solutions and support testing to ensure project teams are equipped with the correct and secure implementations when delivering to customers. How you’ll make an impact Secure IT/OT platforms by implementing robust controls that protect HMI, GWS, and communication layers while ensuring safe and reliable operation. Develop reusable security frameworks that standardize solutions across projects while supporting project‑specific needs. Strengthen edge and infrastructure security by identifying threats and applying protective measures in distributed and industrial environments. Produce clear documentation and support testing so project teams can deploy secure and validated components. Configure and harden industrial communication protocols by applying best security practices e.g., authentication and authorization. Build and validate secure baselines, including hardened images, firewall rules, and configuration templates for IT/OT components. Your background Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Skilled in testing code and creating test cases for developed components. Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, IEC based protocols, SNMP, TCP/UDP, VLANs, and IPsec. Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, gateway devices, and other core OT components Hands on experience with security tools such as Firewalls, network monitoring tools, vulnerability scanners, packet analyzers, and endpoint hardening utilities. Understanding of security frameworks like ISO 27001, and related cybersecurity standards is a plus Strong documentation and communication skills to support cross functional engineering teams.
