HVDC System Design Engineer for backbone

The opportunity Are you passionate about engineering and problem solving? Maybe you are – or want to become – an expert within HVDC? Then this opportunity is for you! We are currently looking for HVDC System Design Engineers. In this role you are responsible for the electrical design and functionality of HVDC converter stations, focusing on the high-voltage system, including main circuit design, insulation coordination and harmonic design. This advertisement is for the backbone office within HVDC System Design department, where your main task is to support the project execution offices by improving base design and ways of working. This role is based in Ludvika or Västerås, Sweden. How you’ll make an impact Ensure the base design and engineering solutions used in the HVDC converter stations are modularized, robust, productified and useful for the current HVDC market. Ensure ways of working (study processes, base reports & models, design principles and design rules etc.) are up to date, simple to use, robust and useful for the project execution departments. Actively contribute in internal transformation projects and initiatives. Effectively participate in problem-solving discussions where you can present your work, discuss challenges and propose a path forward on a higher level. Write clear technical reports describing your complex work in a professional manner. Take responsibility for your work activities, deliver with quality and on time. You have a general understanding of electrical power systems and its equipments. But also, that input data could be arbitrary and that some requirements must be challenged and discussed to solve real problems. You are a team player with excellent communication and report writing skills. Fluent in English both written and verbal. Programming experience in MATLAB and Python, and experience of EMT tools like PSCAD is highly advantageous. Experience of working in Azure DevOps is also beneficial. Experience in high voltage system engineering, and especially within HVDC, is highly advantageous. Experience in process development and productification work is advantageous. HVDC Lead Engineer Plants

The Opportunity We are looking for a Lead Engineer - Plants who wants to take on a key role at HVDC in technical leadership in tenders and projects. You will have the responsibility to coordinate global teams with focus on Plants and Civil engineering design solutions and its interfaces for our onshore and offshore converter stations. As a Lead Engineer - Plants, you will drive strategic technical decision making, ensure that our design solutions meet customer requirements, quality standards and project goals. Primary contact for technical communication with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders. Your Background Academic degree in Engineering (for example within Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related area) At least 5 years of engineering experience, including experience of leading technical teams, multidisciplinary engineering activities or complex projects is required. Experience within HVDC, transmission systems, substations, electrical power systems, offshore wind, or other large-scale energy infrastructure projects is highly valued. Strong technical understanding with the ability to quickly develop expertise in HVDC technology and systems. A collaborative and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to build trust and influence stakeholders across functions and geographic locations. Strong leadership skills and the confidence to make technical decisions when required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to present technical solutions in a clear and structured manner. HVDC Protection Project Engineer

The Opportunity Are you passionate about power systems protection and eager to contribute to the energy transition? We are now looking for an experienced HVDC Protection Project Engineer to join our global HVDC team in Ludvika. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, implementing, and testing advanced protection systems that enable reliable and efficient transmission of electricity across the world. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and suppliers to deliver innovative HVDC solutions that support grid stability and sustainable energy development. How You'll Make an Impact Lead and contribute to the specification, design, and engineering of HVDC protection systems for global projects. Perform protection studies including fault calculations, relay coordination, and stability analyses for HVDC converter stations and transmission systems. Develop and review protection philosophies, functional design specifications, logic diagrams, and test procedures. Configure, verify, and validate protection schemes to ensure reliable system performance and compliance with project requirements. Execute and support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for protection equipment and systems. Provide technical expertise during commissioning and post-commissioning phases, supporting successful project delivery. Collaborate closely with project teams, customers, suppliers, and engineering disciplines to resolve technical challenges and optimize solutions. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, share knowledge, and mentor less experienced engineers within the organization. Your Background Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 3 years of experience in protection engineering, preferably within HVDC, FACTS, or power transmission systems. Desirable understanding of HVDC technology, converter topologies (VSC and/or LCC), and associated protection principles. Strong knowledge of high voltage substation protection and control systems, including design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of protection schemes for transmission and distribution networks. Experience with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) settings, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in power system analysis tools such as PSCAD, PSS®E, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory. Knowledge of international standards and communication protocols, including IEC 61850 and IEC 60255. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in global, multidisciplinary teams. Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Avdelning Säkerhet och Kvalitet arbetar med att vara granskande, stödjande och kravtolkande kopplat till strålsäkerhet. Avdelningen är stöd till bolagets VD avseende strålsäkerhetsfrågor.
