Senior Software Engineer - Ranking & Recommendation

Lund·Mjukvaruutvecklare

Great ranking is what turns a search into a find. A shopper finding the right product immediately is a strong signal. But retailers also want to inspire discovery, increase product exposure, and showcase more of their assortment, and help shoppers discover relevant products beyond their initial search. Balancing those goals is one of the challenges you’ll help us solve. Our ranking engine is built in-house. It analyzes large product catalogs and behavioral datasets while returning results in tens of milliseconds. About the role As a Senior Software Engineer in Ranking & Recommendations, you’ll together with the team own the logic that determines what shoppers see - and in what order - across product recommendations and personalized rankings in Voyado’s Product Discovery Engine. Day to day, you’ll combine hands-on development with system-level thinking. You’ll connect algorithmic improvements to the wider product: response times, downstream systems, testability, rollout strategy, and measurable customer value. Some of the things you’ll be up to Build and evolve ranking capabilities and the production services that power them, primarily in Java and partly in Python Design and fine-tune algorithms for personalized ranking and product recommendations Build systems that combine behavioral, customer-provided, and other ranking signals dynamically Design, run, and evaluate A/B tests Automate test flows Contribute to architectural decisions and the team’s technical roadmap Evaluate how new capabilities affect latency, scalability, reliability, and surrounding systems Turn technically complex features into clear, testable increments that can be brought to market So, who are you? You’re an experienced software engineer who enjoys algorithmic problems but naturally looks beyond the algorithm itself. You think about how a change behaves as part of a larger production system - and what it means for performance, testing, maintainability, and customer value. You bring architectural experience and you're comfortable creating structure where the path is not yet obvious, and you have the persistence to move difficult problems forward. You collaborate openly, welcome feedback, and create momentum around ideas. Just as importantly, you’re curious about whether the system is optimizing for the right outcome - not only whether the implementation works. We believe you have: Excellent programming skills and a strong understanding of data structures Familiarity with concurrent programming A solid understanding of fundamental algorithms Strong object-oriented programming skills Experience designing or evolving production systems from an architectural perspective Experience working with a cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud It’s a plus if you have: Worked with machine learning, embeddings, or LLMs in production Experience with low-latency, high-throughput services Why join Ranking & Recommendations? You’ll work at the forefront of ranking and recommendation development on technology that directly shapes how shoppers discover products. The team is small and autonomous. You won’t simply receive a finished specification - you’ll help decide what to build, how to build it, and how to measure whether it creates the right outcome. Your work will operate at meaningful retail scale, where milliseconds matter and algorithmic decisions have a visible impact on both shopper behavior and commercial results. You’ll also have the opportunity to broaden the team’s architectural perspective and help turn deep technical innovation into reliable, market-ready capabilities. Some of the technologies you’ll work with Java & Python Ranking and recommendation algorithms A/B testing and experimentation Machine learning, embeddings, and LLMs AI-assisted development tools Microservices AWS And when you need a break, you can spend some time in our office gym, explore the puzzle corner, or challenge our Åre office in Call of Duty on the PlayStation 5. 🎮 So, what's in it for you? 🍬 Voyado Elevate wouldn’t be the powerful platform it is without the people behind it. We care about you, and some examples of what we can offer you are: A lovely worksite in Lund, we just opened our Voyado house on Gasverksgatan. Flexible working hours and a hybrid work approach. Tech Lead

STOCKHOLM·Mjukvaruutvecklare

About Evora Labs Evora Labs develops technology for the operation, integration, and management of battery energy storage systems and other distributed energy assets. Our platform helps energy asset owners integrate assets, achieve market readiness, maintain operational availability, and manage technical requirements across energy markets and grid services. About the role As Tech Lead, you will own the technical direction and day-to-day engineering of the Evora platform: the cloud backend, the operator frontend, the EMS edge software that runs at battery sites, and the infrastructure that connects them. You will work close to real assets. The code you write reads Modbus registers from live battery systems, runs prequalification tests against the Swedish TSO's technical requirements, ingests Nordic and continental market data, and dispatches setpoints that a safety envelope on the edge is the last line of defense for. The position combines hands-on full-stack development, system architecture, ownership of the edge and integration layer, technical leadership of a small team, and continuous translation of field experience from live BESS projects into the product. Key responsibilities - Own the architecture and technical roadmap of the Evora platform across backend, frontend, edge, and cloud infrastructure. - Design and build backend services in Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, asyncpg, Alembic) on top of TimescaleDB, Redis, and MQTT. - Develop and maintain the EMS edge software: Modbus and vendor-protocol drivers, register maps, control loops, safety envelope, and store-and-forward telemetry over AWS IoT Core. - Build operator-facing product in the Next.js and React frontend: fleet monitoring, asset and site management, the visual workflow builder, dashboards, and market explorers. - Own the prequalification engine that drives FCR-N, FCR-D, FFR, aFRR, and mFRR test programs, validates the response against TSO technical requirements, and produces the evidence and application values. - Integrate battery management systems, power conversion systems, meters, inverters, EV chargers, and heat pumps through Modbus, vendor cloud APIs, and gateway hardware. - Build and operate the market-data pipelines (ENTSO-E, Svenska kraftnät, Nord Pool style sources) that feed spot, ancillary, and forecast views. - Extend the platform's agent layer: LLM-driven operations assistants, morning briefings, diagnosis and remediation workflows, and the AI workflow builder, using Claude on AWS Bedrock. - Run the AWS infrastructure with Terraform: EC2, IoT Core, ECR, S3, IAM, and the CI/CD pipeline that ships backend images and the Vercel-hosted frontend. - Keep the full-system test suite (app, broker, edge, database) green and extend it as the control loop grows. - Support commissioning of live BESS sites together with the operations and prequalification team, and investigate communication, control-system, and data issues in the field. - Set engineering standards for code review, testing, migrations, observability, and documentation, and grow the team as Evora scales. - Contribute technical expertise in customer discovery, partner integrations, and pre-sales discussions. Qualifications We are looking for someone who has built and operated production software end to end and who is comfortable going from a battery's register map to a React component in the same day. You should have: - University degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, automation, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. - Several years of professional experience building and operating backend systems in Python, preferably with FastAPI or a similar async framework. - Strong SQL and PostgreSQL skills, and experience with time-series data at scale (TimescaleDB, continuous aggregates, compression, partitioning). - Experience building modern web frontends with TypeScript and React, preferably Next.js. - Experience with industrial or IoT communication: Modbus TCP/RTU, MQTT, or comparable protocols, and with software that runs on edge devices or gateways. - Experience running software on AWS or a comparable cloud, including infrastructure as code (Terraform), containers, and CI/CD. - Ability to read technical documentation, device specifications, and grid or market requirements, and turn them into working, tested software. - Experience leading technical work: setting architecture, reviewing code, and mentoring engineers. Meritorious experience It is considered an advantage if you have experience with: - Battery energy storage systems, EMS, BMS, PCS, meters, or other distributed energy resources. - Nordic ancillary-service markets and prequalification for FCR, aFRR, mFRR, or FFR. - Electricity-market data sources such as ENTSO-E, Svenska kraftnät, or Nord Pool. - LLM-based applications, tool-calling agents, or AI-assisted operational tooling. - Workflow or orchestration engines (Temporal or similar) and event-driven architectures. - Federated learning or privacy-preserving analytics on distributed data. - Edge hardware, balena or similar fleet management, and cellular gateways. - Full-system or hardware-in-the-loop testing of control systems. Personal profile You are technically hands-on and enjoy owning a system from the field device up to the user interface. You work systematically, write code that others can read and test, and are comfortable investigating problems that span hardware, communications, databases, and user-facing product. What we offer You will join Evora Labs at an early stage and take a central role in shaping how distributed energy assets are integrated, qualified, and operated through software. The position provides the opportunity to work across the whole stack, from Modbus registers on a battery site to market participation and AI-assisted operations, and to set the technical direction of a growing engineering team. The role is based in Stockholm.
